BYERS, Colo. (CBS4) – A suspected car thief is in custody after allegedly leading officers on a chase across five counties.
The incident started at about 4 p.m. on Saturday. Officers tried to stop a suspicious vehicle in Kit Carson County but the driver sped past Limon and into Deer Trail. At times, the chase reached up to 100 mph.
Troopers searched for hours, then spotted the car in a driveway near Byers with the driver still in it.

Police arrested the driver and say they found a gun in the car.
Marcel Maldonado, 21, is accused of stealing a car in the state of Washington and now faces charges in Colorado of reckless driving, vehicular eluding and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
